Overall lesson: if we do not take time for ourselves, we end up taking time away from ourselves.

Example: we often say, “I don’t have time to rest, I have to figure this out!” That’s a common one from me.

Well if we don’t take a minute to refuel our tank and keep pushing on empty, eventually these things happen:

We might have a mental breakdown and become non-functional. That takes WAY more time to bounce back from than taking a day or two to regulate your nervous system.

We might make ourselves physically sick from a wrecked immune system due to lack of sleep and extreme stress. That’ll keep you out of work for sometimes up to a week (speaking from experience), and many of us don’t have the money to not work for a week.

We might spaz out and experience something more dramatic, like a relapse back into addiction if we’re in recovery, or maybe an outburst that lands us in jail. Both of these scenarios can take YEARS of our lives away, or end them entirely.

—- Oh, I forgot to tell you the story of how peace and clarity were found in chaos, hold up —-

I wrote an article a few days ago about what to do when you feel lost and things fall apart.

Hours after writing that, I found myself in that exact situation.
