This sounds like a great idea! I'm in Florida, too, on my own sabbatical. I always take the week between Christmas and New Year's off. Amazing how pain goes away when you walk away from stress.
Maybe we repeat it - so its not just a one-time thing. I know so many people burned out on social media. Im in the pet health field and it seems like 2024 was long fight to try to protect our dogs and cats from being poisoned by corporate America.
Hello! (I would love to talk to you more about your work side note) and thank you for letting me know you're also here in FL! Yes, it is amazing how the body never lies, I'm still stunned that the pain I was barely able to function under just vanished.
I'm fully with you, my main focus this sabbatical has been to re-evaluate every area of life so I don't fall back into that pain/burnout cycle and it sounds like you're in tune with that as well.
I'm on board to repeat this as well as extend it beyond 24 hours. It sounds like there's already something organized for January 12th for a 24 hour period, but i will continue the discussions here regarding how long we want to go and if/when we want to plan on continuously doing this.
People often say "take back our tech" but I prefer "take back our lives" b/c the tech was never meant to do anything different than what it is - cyphening our life force. Much love to you!
"I want to talk about what I want to see more of in life, not what I want to see less of."
This is key: we starve the beast by not playing. In 2010 and 2011 I advised and participated in a disaster preparation drill for a neighborhood association. From 6 pm Friday to 6 pm Sunday a few dozen families camped in the neighborhood park. Rules like no electricity, nothing but what fits into one vehicle can be used, nothing purchased during the event. It is usually counter intuitive but the participants had a blast. Different reason, but I mention it here because the story we tell ourselves about the what and why we do things is fundamental to our success. Much love my friend 💪🤜🤛❤️
Righteous anger is fine is you channel it to positive action. Anger is there to tell us something, our job is to just balance it out. Sometimes being in the moment means being angry, because it’s absolutely required. If it consumes you, then you have to worry. Sometimes anger is motivation to move forward.
Okay so lets start with the existing American holiday Independence day. and this lets encourage people to go offline and then share what they learned or did the next day
Thank you so much for this. I will do what I can on my end to get the wheels rolling, I’m in the southeast region of the United States, in Florida. I remember when they did this many years ago for a completely different reason, and it wasn’t silence, but it was a form of Global protest and social media was ironically used to organize it and it did work. Do you mind if I ask what region of the world you are in?
I think there a lot that can be accomplished, and even if it is a region, people practicing it will make it easier. If we are all used to doing it once a week or month, then coordinating will be easier.
We desperately need this habit, it has to be second nature. The frequently we do it individually will have effects too.
I am in London.
12 Jan sounds good.
Yes!!!! I will make another post soon but thank you for letting us know & letting us know where you’re at too! I am very excited about this
